About Diego
A psychologist who knows what it means to live between worlds.
My Story
I became a psychologist because I saw too many people in our community suffering in silence. There's a stigma around mental health in many Latinx families — we're taught to be strong, to endure, to not air our struggles. But strength isn't the absence of pain; it's the courage to face it.
I'm from Oaxaca, and today I live and run my practice in Playa del Carmen, where tourism puts Mexican and North American cultures in constant contact—not as an abstract idea, but in daily life. I didn't grow up as an immigrant abroad, yet I'm steeped in those two worlds braided together; that vantage point informs how I listen and show up in every session.
My Approach
I practice integrative therapy, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), evidence-based trauma work, mindfulness-based techniques, and culturally-responsive frameworks. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all solutions.
Above all, I prioritize the therapeutic relationship. Therapy works when you feel safe, seen, and understood. My job is to create that space — warm, non-judgmental, and genuinely focused on your growth.
